Day 15 Fort Nelson, B.C.

SEMI CIVILIZATION !!!! Hello everyone. Sorry we haven't been in touch but as we said, International calls and internet use will break us. Fortunately we found a Motel 8 in Fort Nelson, B.C. that has free high speed internet. Well, if you haven't looked, I posted day's 13 and 14, loaded some new pictures and updated the map. After this post you will be up to date. We woke this morning to a refreshing day. The sun was out and there was a slight nip in the air. We left the rain gear in the bags and headed out. What a beautiful morning and what beautiful sights. The road to Fort St. John was well paved but very curvy. This kept our speed to 60 m.p.h. The Pine trees lined the highway as we twisted through the mountains. Lakes were abundant and streams plentiful each one more breath taking than the last. The clouds were high in the sky and reflected off the lakes. As we headed north east we started to climb into the mountain range, and of coarse, the clouds. We had only been riding an hour and we had to pull over to put on the rain gear. As we headed into the heavens it would rain, as we descended it would stop. The clouds weren't moving, we were riding into them. This continued for the next 250 miles. Up one side down the other. Unlike Utah, there were no towns in between. Mass wilderness and little traffic. We had lunch in Chetwynd, B.C. then headed up Rt 29. Our goal was Fort St. John. We arrived around 3:45 p.m. and decided to continue on. The weather was breaking and the landscape looked to be flattening out. This is where we got on the Alaskan Highway (mile 35). The road was better than I thought it would be. The speed limit was 65, so I cranked it to 70 and we were on our way. The highway had miles of straight a way and the trees were cut back far enough that you could see wildlife way before they get in your way. Towns were not actually towns they were an R.V. park, motel and gas station. They were spread about 90 miles apart. We saw two bears just before Fort Nelson, B.C. but they were far enough the road. We also saw a moose on the side of the road that tangled with a vehicle. We arrived in Fort Nelson around 8:30 p.m. and settled in to a Motel 8. Just in time it's raining again. There, everyone is up to date on our travels. Now we are about two day's from cell and internet service again.
